Villa Maria are one of the greatest examples of creating high end wines from pedigree driven vineyards and then invest in the best oak and wine making. They are wine of the few business's that can really stand by the term 'Reserve'.
From a vintage which had a summer like no other.
"An attractive, polished, modern style on the nose with subtle peach, and melon fruit with vanilla pod, cinnamon, and toasty oak influence. Tautly structured with concentration, and richness, fresh acidity, and lingering nutty, lees characters on the finish. A very sound, attractive wine." Rated Excellent, 5 Stars & 93/100 NZ Wine Rater, June 2021
Typical of VM this wine has had everything thrown at it from a perfect vintage, best French Oak (21% new), and winemaking. The only thing missing is the price.
"In youth, this concentrated wine is pale in the glass and displays aromas of white fleshed stone fruit, flowers, biscuit and hazelnut. Intricate barrel fermentation influences meld with flint characters and acidity on the palate, forming a refined marriage of style and length. Cellar this wine with confidence for up to 5-8 years from vintage.
Marlborough experienced a summer of the century, with a spell of long hot dry weather with moderately cool nights providing the perfect environment to ensure physiological and flavour ripeness whilst retaining freshness" Winemaker
In summary, this wine should not be at clearance pricing but is, deserves your attention, great to store for a couple more years and shows the refinement and clarity super premium Marlborough Chardonnay can deliver. And the price!!!!
