Telmo Rodríguez Dehesa Gago Toro 2019

We run a bit of a fan club for Telmo Rodriquez due to his precision, depth and breadth of wine making in Spain.

The Dehesa Gago is an opportunity to enjoy his vast land holdings while sitting down to a full and juicy Toro from an outstanding vintage.

Dehesa Gago is 100% Tinto de Toro (the local clone of Tempranillo). The intensity of this old vine fruit comes through even in this wine, vinified without oak, a pure expression.

The Telmo Rodriguez wines in Toro are named after a Spanish breed of bull that is both elegant and powerful. That epitomizes the challenge in the region, to work in areas that are cooler, and with vines that are trained and adapted to the heat, so that a freshness plays with the fruit concentration.

2019 was a terribly dry year, resulting in very small berries and a short harvest. Precipitations at the end of September were crucial and cooler nights than usual during harvest helped to achieve good maturity and balanced wines. Dehesa Gago once more offers a frank and sincere expression of Toro, a real treat. "Silky and appealingly sweet"

"Dark violet. Sharply focused scents of fresh dark berries, candied flowers, licorice and baking spices. Silky and appealingly sweet, offering juicy, spice-laced blueberry and cherry cola flavors that tighten up slowly on the back half. Shows very good depth as well as vivacity and finishes with strong floral persistence and harmonious tannins that fold smoothly into the wine's clinging dark fruit." - J.R. Vinous 91/100
