Produttori del Barbaresco Montestefano 2014 Riserva

It is one of the vineyards with higher concentration of calcium in the soil that gives to the wine a powerful tannic structure. The extra heat of the South facing slope is responsible for the Montestefano full body and almost meaty texture. It is deep flavored wines with massive tannins, but quite ripe and well integrated in the wine because of the warm exposure. In a wet season its grapes can hold rain well and it is usually the last one to be picked among the Barbaresco vineyards. For all these reason it is probably the Barbaresco that more reminds of Barolo where tar and roses prevails on the refined violet flavors. Despite this massive attitude remains a true Barbaresco, never too heavy on the palate and with a classy finish that lingers on the palate without overwhelming your senses. First produced by Produttori in 1974. Winery

New leather, camphor, red-berry and rose aromas lead the way on this vibrant red. The medium-bodied palate offers sour cherry, pomegranate and white pepper accompanied by bright acidity and polished fine-grained tannins that lead to a firm finish. 95/100, K O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast

Vineyard size: 4.5 ha (11 acres). Vineyard exposure: south-west. Soil: limestone with sandy veins. Vinification: fermentation at 30 °C (85 °F), 28 days’ skin contact, malolactic completed. Ageing: 36 months in large oak barrels and 12 months in bottle. Bottling date: April 2018. Total production: 10,000 bottles. This is bottle number 2690. A shade deeper than the Pora Riserva and perhaps a little more youthful. Deep, peppery, dusty strawberry fruit on the nose. A little more concentration on the palate, too, with linear acidity and pure raspberry fruit. Cool, elegant and with a gripping tannic structure. 14% Drink 2020-2030, 17+, Walter Speller,, June 2019
