Cantena Alamos Malbec 2020

A standout when it comes to pedigree driven Malbec with a commercial appetite.

"Nicola Catena planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza in 1902 and today the estate is run by Nicholas Catena and his daughter Laura. Malbec continues to be the estates focus and the winerie's pristine vineyards lie at the base of the Andes on soils of sand, lime and stone at altitudes between 920 and 1120 metres above sea level. Over the last 20 years, the fastidious vineyard work of Nicholas and Laura has paid dividends and Catena Zapata is now one of Argentina's most famous estates. Lush, beautifully created wines are what you can expect from Catena Zapata.

The Alamos Malbec has a dark purple colour with violet highlights. The nose offers bright black berry aromas with light floral notes and a touch of toast. The mouth-feel is full and rich, with ripe, concentrated cassis and black raspberry fruit interwoven with a touch of chocolate and sweet spice from light oak aging. The finish shows ripe, silky tannins." Winery

"Enticing ripe red fruit aromas with black and blue fruit scents, moments of dark chocolate and vanilla, exotic spice and rocky earthy qualities. On the palate - a core of red berry fruit flavours touches the palate first then contrasting acidity and fine tannins follow. There’s a light cherry and milk chocolate note on the finish adding just a touch of complexity and charm. Best drinking from 2021 through 2025." Cameron Douglas, MS, 91/100
