Sydney Wilcox Old Vine Zibbibo 2020

$13.99 $19.99

A great price on this Old Vine aromatic you may never heard of.  Perfect chilled with fish or white meats.

Zibibbo is one of the few existing aromatic wine grapes. Like Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, its berries contain high levels of organic compounds called terpenes. Zibibbo, in particular, has a super concentration of linalool, geraniol and nerol, all of them responsible for the wines' intense aromas.

It is a resilient variety: while sensitive to extreme humidity, it is resistant to drought and hot climates, and that’s why recent studies suggest that Zibibbo is among the most interesting varieties to consider in an era of climate change.

Aromas of white flowers, ripe stone fruits, guava, orange blossom citrus zest and fresh spices. The palate is vivacious with the high acidity balanced by a slight oiliness that adds complexity and mouthfeel. There is some smoky minerality on the palate as well as complex citrus and floral notes. The finish is long with a touch of saltiness.

Not much Zibibbo is grown here, but Byrne Vineyards, under their Sidney Wilcox label, make an excellent example, using fruit from their Riverland vineyards.
Pale with green freshness. Tropical fruit, lemon sherbet and lime blossom. Light to medium-bodied, plush and juicy with a bright mix of musk, stonefruit and melon, fruit tingle texture, refreshing acidity and a mouth-watering finish.

"Delightfully fruited and perfumed, the bouquet shows apricot, lemon zest, mixed spice and potpourri aromas, followed by a juicy palate offering bright fruit intensity together with rounded mouthfeel and crisp acidity." 91 points Wine Orbit
