Langmeil Hangin Snakes Shiraz 2022
Langmeil is the proud home of the Freedom Vineyard. Planted in 1843, it is believed to be the oldest surviving Shiraz vineyard in the world.
Langmeil is also home to the Orphan Bank Vineyard. These 160 year old vines were moved to the bank of the Para River by the Lindner Family to save them from developers, once again showing their dedication to the preservation of Barossa’s history.
Speaking a local dialect known as ‘Barossa-Deutsch’, a blend of German and English that embodies the history of the district, one of Langmeil’s growers, the late Wally Krieg didn’t curse just as his forebears didn’t, but in the heat of the vintage was often heard to mutter “Hangin’ Snakes!”.
Ripe and juicy berries flow through the palate which is medium bodied, with soft and velvety tannins adding lovely structure and texture to the wine while sweet and briary spices balance the juicy fruit on the finish.
