Carmen Premier 1850 Carmenere 2022

Try a new variety that is quite old.

This classic Chilean red wine is savoury, dark and complex with a chewy, full-bodied mid-palate. Layers of black fruit with a long finish. Superbly crafted for this price. Great structure and persistence of flavours on the finish.

Carménère is a representative wine of this emblematic variety of Chile, aromatically dominated by red and black fruits and spices. On the palate the silkiness of its tannins and depth make it very easy to drink and at the same time very versatile to pair a great diversity of foods.

Grapes harvested in May are destemmed and crushed, alcoholic fermentation (yeasts) begins at temperatures between 25 to 28 ° C (80 ° F) with open pumpovers. Once the alcoholic fermentation is finished, the wines are racked and the skins are pressed.

Carménère originated in Bordeaux, France, but is now grown mainly in Chile. The wine is treasured for its supple red-and-black berry flavors and herbaceous green pepper notes. It was recently discovered to be genetically identical to Cabernet Gernischt, a major red grape grown in China. Wine Folly
