5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

The grapes were hand harvested between 3rd and 10th April 2019 from Domain Road and Defiance vineyards.  The fruit was de-stemmed into stainless steel tanks and inoculated with selected wine yeast to carry out the fermentation.  The wine was aged in French oak barriques for approximately 10 months, of which 30% was new oak.  

Deep garnet in colour, with fragrant aromas of  blackberry, blackcurrant and ripe plum mixed with hints of clove, cinnamon and leather, on the nose.  The palate is rich and concentrated with red berry fruits, dark plums, chocolate, leather and hints of Christmas spice.  A complex concentrated wine with lovely fine grained tannins, balanced minerality and a long plum and spice finish. "The classy 2021 vintage was estate-grown and hand-picked in the Defiance Vineyard, and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (31 per cent new). Deeply coloured, it is mouthfilling, with vibrant cherry, plum and spice flavours, concentrated, ripe, savoury and well-structured. Still youthful, it should be at its best 2025+.
