Included in the Gimblett Gravels 2020 selection!
We loved the 2019 but after hosting their winemaker recently. Gordon noted the 2020 is even better. True to form, he was right.
Being selected in the prestigious GG Selection 2020 is remarkable considering most of the other 11 wines are priced over $50 and some over $100. Seriously, put some of this on your shopping list!
"Bargain-priced, this highly characterful red was grown in the Gimblett Gravels. Deeply coloured, it is powerful and fleshy, with strong, vibrant, plummy, well-spiced flavours, savoury notes adding complexity, and ripe, supple tannins. Delicious young." Michael Cooper
From the deep stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels, this Malbec based red was fermented in open top concrete fermenters and hand plunged. Deeply coloured and complex with jammy and plummy notes. We should be exploring more NZ red wines like this due to their 'fullness' and rewarding delivery.
94/100 "Traditional, intense Bordelaise nose with fragrant plum and cassis fruit complexed by the distinctive, meaty, grilled-vegetable character of Malbec and generous levels of milk-coffee oak. Quite full, and robust with lush, juicy fruit flavours, good length, plenty of oak and chewy tannins. A very creditable wine that has all the elements for further bottle maturation." 5 Stars NZ Wine Rater
